+Michael O’Keeffe – Irish SVDP leader

Michael O’Keeffe (59), a well-known figure in the St. Vincent de Paul Society (SVP) (Correction: Ireland not Australia) both nationally and locally, died in a farm accident on Friday evening. His sudden and tragic death has been met by shock and sadness across the region.

As well as being a successful farmer, he was a member of the the SVP national leadership council and was about to conclude a term as president of the North-East Regional Council of the society in Ireland. He has been described by St. Vincent de Paul members as “a towering figure in the organisation”. Mr O’Keeffe’s funeral Mass will take place at Kilskyre Church at 11am on Wednesday morning followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.
