Sir Richard Branson backs head of Virgin Australia in Vinnies CEO Sleepout. He has called for innovative solutions and a community based approach to solving the issue of homelessness. Sir Richard’s call comes as he throws his support behind Virgin Australia CEO, John Borghetti’s participation in the 2011 Vinnies CEO Sleepout, with a $20,000 donation.

“There are 105,000 people who are homeless in Australia every night. All Australians need to act together to ultimately end homelessness,” Sir Richard said.

“I am thrilled that John and Virgin Australia are getting behind the issue and doing their bit to raise the profileand also funds for this very necessary cause.”

Mr. Borghetti will sleep rough for one night to experience what it is like to be homeless while raising awareness and money for Vinnies homeless services across NSW. Armed only with a piece of cardboard, a sleeping bag and a mug of warm soup, Mr. Borghetti will be a world away from his usual comfortable surroundings.

“The Virgin Australia Airlines Group is actively involved with a number of national organisations through Virgin’s worldwide foundation, UNITE, to raise the awareness of homelessness and youth at risk. I thank Richard for his donation to help end this social issue,” Mr. Borghetti said.

The Vinnies CEO Sleepout has already raised more than$500,000 nationally with NSW CEOs managing to raise almost $200,000 thus far.

CEOs who take part in the Sleepout are seeking sponsors from colleagues, friends and family. All money raised will go towards the Society’s homeless services across NSW.
