Americans have been hitting the bottle…the water bottle, that is. Americans have mistakenly come to believe that water served in plastic is healthier than water out of the tap. (Actually, a governmewnt report shows that bottled water quality is less strictly regulated than tap).
Per capita bottled water consumption has more than doubled in the last decade, according to a 2009 federal government report.
Corporate Accountability International’s Think Outside the Bottle campaign has taken on Pepsi and Coca-Cola, the makers of Aquafina and Dasani, to reveal the real ingredients of their supposdly ‘pure’ water. And, for the last 5 years, they’ve established a successful model for working with businesses, college campuses, churches, restaurants and communities to go bottled water free.
This campaign has also challenged municipal, state and federal governments to end their bottled water purchases.
