Letter of Convocation for the Second JMV General Assembly To all the National Councils of JMV:

My dear friends,

Only God is love, but we can be a reflection of His tenderness!

The International Council met in Madrid last May 8-9 in order to start the preparation of the Second JMV GENERAL ASSEMBLY. After having discussed and heard the different suggestions and points of view, the International Council, with the approval of the Director General, has decided to convoke officially the Second JMV General Assembly which will be held in Paris (140, Rue du Bac), on August 7-13, 2005 with the theme, “With a lay spirituality, we share the mission: challenges.”

The Chapel at Rue du Bac, birthplace of our Association, was chosen as venue due to the historical and spiritual significance that this place has for each one of us. We have chosen this date because we would also like to hold the Third Vincentian Youth Encounter during the 20th World Youth Day celebrations from August 16-21 in Cologne (Germany.) The Preparatory Commission of this Encounter will contact you soon.

According to article 15 of our International Statutes, two lay members from each country with approved National Statutes are considered members of the General Assembly and can take part in it together with the members of the International Council and Secretariat. Each country can also count with the participation of the National Advisors (Priest and Sister), but without the right to vote. Thus, four members from each country with Statutes may participate.

To facilitate our being able to invite some members of countries where JMV has been started recently and other persons whom the Council considers convenient (General Directory of the General Assembly, article 6.5) we request that each country with approved Statutes inform the International Secretariat, on or before October 15, the number of members who will participate, as established by article 15 of the International Statutes.

For more information, please feel free to contact the International Secretariat.

Beginning today, let us pray that our Assembly may be a great moment to share, celebrate, deepen in the faith and proclaim the Vincentian charism.

To Jesús with Mary,

Gladys Abi-Saïd Dib

JMV International President
