*** Local Hunger Awareness Day Launches Nationwide
In an effort to focus the nation’s attention on the issue of domestic
hunger, America’s Second Harvest affiliates across the country are
observing the day in 216 unique ways. For instance our affiliate in
Fresno, CA is inviting local celebrities to help “Bag Hunger” by bagging
groceries at a local market. I

n Abilene, TX the largest area supermarket
chain will launch a three-day food drive.

The food bank in Windsor, CT
is hosting a “Salvage Sort-a-thon”. Their goal is to sort 10 tons of
surplus food between 8:00 in the morning until 7:00 at night.

Help observe National Hunger Awareness Day by taking one of four simple
actions:
donate a dollar, volunteer for an hour,
send one email,
or
write one letter in support of the CARE Act.

Although the problem of
hunger seems immens, small acts really can make a difference. In one
hour a volunteer can help sort 200 pounds of surplus food. With one
dollar we can distribute 28 pounds of food to hungry people. One letter
can influence a legislator.

*** Individual Americans Tell Their Stories About Hunger

Since we launched our National Call to Action, ordinary individuals have
come to our web site to tell their stories about how hunger has touched
their lives. From the retiree who volunteers at the local food bank in
Arizona to the former athlete in Connecticut who relates his own
experience of hunger years ago, they are all helping us build a more
realistic and understandable picture of hunger in America. We invite you
to read these stories and encourage you to tell us your story. How has
hunger touched your life?
