Talk:Confrere

From VincentWiki
As you reflect and pray about your understanding and living the charism, what do you find touches you most deeply?

Two things touch me deeply. First, I find the writings of St. Vincent very moving. During my years in Rome, my work drew me to go over those writings again and again and to try to formulate what they say to us today. I found this very helpful. Secondly, the work I am presently engaged in, Project DREAM (a program for combating the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Africa), touches me because I see the huge number of people, particularly women and children, who are suffering and dying in Africa, when they really could live if properly treated.

What can you change about your life in order to grow more deeply in the charism of Vincent?

I would hope that I could allow events to shape me more. I like to plan out what will happen in my life, but I see that, often, new people, new ideas, and new events can change our lives dramatically.

As you evaluate your ministry and apostolic work, what could you do to make Vincent's charism more visible?

I could write more and talk more. I'm convinced that raising consciousness about the poor and drawing others to serve them is one of the principal challenges today.

What specifically will you commit yourself to doing?

Right now, the Commission on Systemic Change is preparing a book. It focuses on assisting the poor not only by trying to meet their immediate needs (by offering food, clothing, shelter, etc.), but also by working with them to develop strategies by which they can emerge from poverty. I will attempt to move the book through to publication soon.
