History

Three members of the Congregation of the Mission, Fathers Felix Benech and Rafael Sillere and Brother Jose Maria Liegeois arrived at Valparaiso on March 15, 1854, where 30 Daughters of Charity were serving. Additional members arrived in 1856 and 1860. They gave rural missions and also visited prisoners, the latter under the authority of the President of the Republic. From 1862 - 1864, there was a house in La Serena; other houses were established in Concepción and, in Peru, in Lima, Arequipa and Trujillo.

During the term of Mario Fargués as Provincial (1905-1924), the Congregation took on three seminaries in Bolivia. Between 1924 and 1946 it became difficult to maintain houses in both Chile and Peru. A shortage of vocations continued. The house at Talcahuano was closed; houses in Peru were given to the new province there. There has been a resurgence in vocations.

As of 2007, there is a seminary at Macul, Seminario San Vicente de Paúl. The province has care of parishes San Luis Gonzaga in Collipulli, San Vicente de Paúl in Valparaíso, Santa María Reina in Macul. The central house and Iglesia San Vicente Paúl is in Santiago de Chile. There are three houses: San Juan Gabriel Perboyre at Santiago, San Justino de Jacobis at Valparaíso, Puerto Montt at Puerto Montt.
