Boston Spa

Boston Spa is a village in West Yorkshire, England where the Daughters of Charity have based one of their many schools. What is unique about it is that it is the only Catholic boarding school for Deaf Children in the United Kingdom.

The School is called St John's Catholic School for the Deaf at Boston Spa.

For the first 100 years, the School used the signed language as the teaching language, using French Sign Language imported from the deaf school in Brussels, Belgium.

It have produced many intelligent and well-educated Deaf children - many went on to become leading figures such as leaders, teachers, professors, lecturers, TV presenters etc - and many are leaders in the UK's deaf community - and to some lesser, Ireland's deaf community.

The School have produced two Deaf priests: Fr Peter Doughty and Fr Paul Fletcher S.J.
