The wiki, also known as the Vincentian encyclopedia is devoted to material related to St. Vincent de Paul, a 17th century priest whose influence is still being felt today through the more than 2 million people who are inspired by him and serve in various organizations generally known as the Vincentian Family.
The wiki is available in other languages: Français, Espagnol, Deutsch, Polish
What is this Vincentian Encyclopedia?
Although still in its embryonic stages, this is a collaborative effort to create a Vincentian encyclopedia of articles and other information useful for those who follow Vincent, Louise and their spiritual companions sometimes commonly referred to as the “Vincentian family“. It contains articles related to Vincentian spirituality and information about the various groups that trace their roots to Vincent. It is, in summary, an encyclopedia created by and for the Vincentian family.
The uniqueness of this project lies in the fact that it is a collaborative effort of many people using technology which is rapidly changing the way content is created on the web. This software allows large numbers of people to work collaboratively on a Web site. The best known example at present is Wikipedia, a free user created encyclopedia, the English version of which already has more than 2.1 million entries.
This adaptation of wiki software is set up to permit any registered user of this site has the privilege of creating or editing content. To register use the login/register link at the top right of this page. Some pages have been protected to preserve specific kinds of content: formal documents such as constitutions and articles by recognized Vincentian historians and other writers. In every case, it is possible to comment (see the “discussion” link at the top of each page) and also, by following the “history” link at the top of each page, to review how each article has evolved.
The software behind this project provides a platform for many other forms of collaboration and could allow an exchange of information about ongoing projects such as Vincentian-Setonian Researchers.
