Benedict XVI is encouraging a “positive” use of communication technologies so that friendships created through them can help make the world a better place. The Pope said this today at the end of the general audience when he spoke in English about this Sunday’s celebration of World Communications Day.

Despite world economic conditions Pope Benedict appealed today to world leaders to “courageously take and apply the necessary measures to wipe out extreme poverty, hunger, ignorance and the plague of pandemics, which above all hit the most vulnerable.”
