Benedict XVI is encouraging a “positive” use of communication technologies so that friendships created through them can help make the world a better place. The Pope said this today at the end of the general audience when he spoke in English about this Sunday’s celebration of World Communications Day.

The Vatican has made the news with its YouTube channel. One of his videos,“The Internet as New Way to Speak of God,” has already been viewed over 50,000 times in 48 hours.

The example of St. Paul, a “migrant by vocation,” is one Benedict XVI hopes the Church will follow to build solidarity and promote peaceful coexistence among all races, cultures and creeds.(Zenit.org).

Despite world economic conditions Pope Benedict appealed today to world leaders to “courageously take and apply the necessary measures to wipe out extreme poverty, hunger, ignorance and the plague of pandemics, which above all hit the most vulnerable.”
