Grace and Love and Communion for Us

by | Jun 6, 2017 | Formation, Reflections

Through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, God reveals his love to us.  He wants us to enjoy the communion of the Holy Spirit.

Grace is ours through Moses.  Grace, on the other hand, comes to us through Jesus Christ.  God gives him to the world, so that we may have eternal life.  Jesus is the eternal Word.  That is why he is the fulfillment of the commandments.  And dwelling among us, he offers us communion with God.

As he becomes flesh and lives with us, the Son of God, although rich, becomes poor.  The reason for this grace of Jesus Christ is to enrich us through his poverty.  We get a reminder of this grace we know, so that we may stay generous and in communion with others.

Yes, Jesus wants us to have his grace, giving cheerfully despite our poverty.  Moreover, our merciful God dwells only in those who are merciful.

The love of God, sure, and the love of neighbor are not the same.  But both loves are one unbreakable love and they make up the greatest commandment.  More, according to St. Paul, to love the neighbor as ourselves is to fulfill the whole law

To love our neighbor so is to have, besides, a living and working faith.  It is not enough for this faith to say to the naked and hungry, “Go in peace, keep warm, and eat well.”

That is why it is not enough for us either to receive communion, if any brother or sister goes hungry.  Otherwise, we would eat and drink judgment on ourselves.   Nor is it enough for us to love God if our neighbor does not love him (SV.EN XII:215).

Grant us, oh God, your love and the communion of the Holy Spirit.  In that way, we will truly know and taste the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.
