The  Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth  will host “Eyes Open Against Human Trafficking”on Oct. 11 at the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Motherhouse, 4200 S. Fourth St.

“Trafficking occurs everywhere,” said Penny Lonergan.

She is a member of the planning committee for the seminar and a representative of the Leavenworth Child Abuse Prevention Council, which is sponsoring the event.

Lonergan said the seminar will feature a representative of the Washington, D.C.,-based Polaris Project, which operates the National Human Trafficking Resource Center hotline.

Dorthy Stucky Halley, director of the Victim Services Division of the Kansas Attorney General’s Office, also will be speaking at the seminar as well as Kristy Childs, founder and executive director of an organization called Veronica’s Voice.
