Tools for Collaboration in

New tools for collaboration in the Vincentian Family project “Globalization of Charity -The Fight Against Hunger”I am pleased to announce that the “healhunger” site initially developed by Pat Tryon for famvin now has its own domain name.

http://www.healhunger.org</a.

Earlier today Don Finn made this comment on an article posted on famvin suggesting that a long range response to terrorism is to collaborate in the “Globalization of Charity -The Fight Against Hunger”

Don writes…

“Thank you for posting your reflection. If we believe that “Love is creative unto infinity,” you suggest a creative way TO ACT NOW on our committed values in the face of evil. If, as a witness to our values, we can seize the moment to respond in love to suffering, we might encourage many others to move from passive observation to join such an effort.

I have begun to hear a similar response from other thoughtful groups concerned for the poor. Perhaps our Vincentian leaders might consider how we can quickly work in a coalition with some of these groups to feed the poor. I believe that the British group, Oxfam, has publicly suggested that we drop food, instead of bombs, on Afghanistan!

What a lovingly creative and symbolic first step response, while simultaneously working with others a on longer term response to hunger in this region.

“Listen*Reflect*Speak*ACT*….” Please advise if I can assist with this idea.

I suggest that such ideas also be communicated to Benjamin Romo, CM who I believe is coordinating the “Globalization of Charity” campaign for our international leaders. His email address is

Benjamin Romo, C.M . famvin@tin.it

I also offer the healhunger.org site as a place to post news, reports, pictures, etc. of such efforts.

We registered this site for a variety of reasons including keeping it as a site exclusively focused on the two year campaign, ease of being picked up by search engines, etc.

Beth Nicol and I have set up an email list geared specfically for dialogue on this project.

To subscribe to the mailinglist, simply send a message with the word ‘subscribe’ in the Subject: field

To: healhunger-request@healhunger.org

Subject: subscribe

Some may wish too subscribe to the digest (which gathers all posts of the day into one post). In that case simply send a message with the word ‘subscribe’ in the Subject: field to the following address.

To: healhunger-d-request@healhunger.org

Subject: subscribe

(For the time being it is set up so any subscriber can post. If that becomes unwieldy we can change that.)

We can also do things such as chat rooms or perhaps even on-line conferences depending on the level of interest.

Of course we will link the healhunger site to the main famvin.org site.

In the meantime I hope people will continue to share ideas either by making additional comments on the piece on famvin, submitting news articles using the “submit news” link on the left of every famvin page or sending email to us using the addresses on either site.

In a few weeks we expect to have someone who is fluent in Spanish take responsibility for the healhunger site and its translation into Spanish. We would welcome other collaborators.

John Freund
